Frequently Asked Questions
Frequently Asked Questions
Payment / Legal
Is this legal? Really, are the people who make the games getting something out of this?
Yes, this is legal. Part of the money that you pay for the games (most of it in fact) we pass onto the games’ publishers. All of the games we have on here are only on the publisher’s approval.
Do you ever see my credit card info?
No, never; only the payment services we use see your card information so that they can actually take the payment. We use Bibit from the Royal Bank of Scotland and Paypal to process our payments. All the pages on our site where you need to enter personal or credit card information are 128 bit SSL secured.
Download / Installation
So how many times can I download my game?
Simply put – unlimited. Though really, if we see 20 downloads the same day from a bunch of different IPs, then we’ll think that that copy of the game has found its way into a frauder’s hands and block the downloads until we are contacted by the person who bought the game.
And If I don’t want to download the game, will you send me the boxed version?
Sorry, no. This is a download site. But you can burn what you’ve downloaded to a dvd to install it later if you want.
How invasive is your game downloader?
Really not at all, it’s a little .net application that ONLY downloads the games. We’ve added a bit so that it can download faster as well as links in it to install the game when it has finished downloading, but that’s it. Note that it doesn’t work on Mac.
What if I don’t want to use your game downloader?
No problem, after you buy a game you can see the direct download links. That way if you want to download using internet explorer, firefox or your own download manager, you can.
These downloaded files, can I save them somewhere like a DVD-R and use them later?
Of course, but don’t forget that you can download your game later at no cost whatsoever.
Can I download the game on one PC and install it on another?
Yes, just move all the files that you downloaded over. Don’t forget that activation over the internet is faster (and sometimes needed) to launch the game after installation.
Can I install a game on a PC that doesn’t have a net connection?
Yes, for most games, but you will need to have access to an internet connection on another PC to do what is called ‘manual activation’.
Do I need an internet connection to play the games?
No. Though you may need an internet connection to activate your game after installation. And, obviously, you’ll need a net connection for online multiplayer or for MMO games.
Can I install my game on a bunch of PCs?
Yes, though because of the DRM (Digital Rights Management) applied on the game you only have a set amount of ‘initial activations’ (normally 5) that are imposed on us by the games publishers. If you need more then our support team will give more, within reason. What we mean is that if we see a lot of activations in a few days from a bunch of different IPs, then it’s pretty obvious that this is fraudulent use, so we won’t give more activations without a really really good reason.
What about patches, do I need to install special patches on the games I download?
For the most part, no. Most of our games come already patched. If we are lagging behind a bit on the newer games then the patches that you can find on the internet can normally be applied to the games (they will be marked boxed and digital). If you are unsure, or if you have had any problems patching a game you bought from us then you can contact our customer support team.
Activations
Do you use DRM technology like SecuROM and that kind of stuff?
Yes, some games on this site have DRM (Digital Rights Management) software like SecuROM included as an anti-piracy measure. This is done at the request of the game’s publisher. When a game has a DRM then it will have a limit of ‘initial activations’ (normally 5), you can ask for more from our customer support team. There are even some games on this site that are DRM-free. When a game is DRM-free, you’ll see it in the game’s description.
How many of these ‘activations’ do I get?
On most games you get 5 ‘initial activations’ that are reset to 5 usable ones every so often. If you ever run out then you can get more by contacting our support team. Our Principle is ‘If you bought your game then you should always be able to activate your game for your own use’.
If I uninstall the game and reinstall it later, will that use an activation?
No, only installations on different PCs will use an activation. You can uninstall and reinstall on the same PC as many times as you want.
Would upgrading my PC use up one of these ‘activations’?
No, only changing lots of components in your PC (like processor, motherboard and graphics card all at the same time) will mean that your PC is seen as a different PC, therefore needing you to use an activation.
What happens when I use all my game licence activations and I want to play my game?
Not a problem, just send a mail to our support team with your order number and say that you ran out. They will check when you used your activations (to root out fraudulent use) and send you more. Our Principle is ‘If you bought your game then you should always be able to activate your game for your own use’.
Support
So your customer support is always available?
Yes, 7 days a week. Though your queries will get treated faster if you explain your problem clearly and give the order number of your purchase.
What happens if I’ve lost my order email, how do I get my game again?
Not a problem, just log into the site that you bought your game from and you can find download links and activation codes on your account page. You can also resend your purchase mail from the account page if you want.
What if I can’t get into my account anymore?
Then you can use the forgotten password tool on the login page. Or contact our support team who will track down your order for you and resend you the purchase email or reset your account details.
When I ‘gift’ a game to a friend, does the gift email go out immediately?
Only if you want it to. This is the default option available on the checkout page. You can otherwise select the day you want it sent.
What if I have a problem with the game?
Well if you have a problem installing or activating the game then you should first check the Support section which is full of info on various topics. If this doesn’t help you can contact our support team that is available 7 days a week via a form in the support section. If the problem is in the game itself (like a bug in a level or problems with textures) then you’ll have to contact the publisher support directly. A list of publisher support addresses is available in our Support section.
